Phoenix Creations

About 45 minutes south of Hobart, Tasmania, you will find the beautiful rural village of Cygnet. In this thriving centre for artists, musicians and artisans, you will discover a beautiful little gallery tucked away on Golden Valley Road - home of Phoenix Creations.

David and Michelle jumped on board the Cygnet Art Trail at its inception. Inviting people to come in and share their creative passions fills them with joy. David takes pride in creating beautifully handcrafted spoons and other homewares. You can also be tempted by the mosaic and beaded jewellery created by Michelle.

Home of the gorgeous Soul Spoon range - not only spoons but salad servers, scoops, kuksas, spurtles- any utensil you can think of! They celebrate the past by breathing new life into discarded and recycled timber. “Our timber comes from many sources. Renovations, demolitions, farm clearance sales, auctions and sometimes we barter or even get timber given to us. The local arborist occasionally brings around green logs for us he's saved from the chipper, which is always a thing to rejoice!”

David says, “My initial salvaged timber crush was NZ Kauri over 20 years ago. Since moving back to Tasmania, iconic Huon Pine has become a favourite with beautiful Blackwood and Native Cherry not far behind.”

Dave and Michelle have also recently started Spoon Carving Workshops, for ages 6 and up, to share their passion with others. Bookings can be made via their website, phone or studio and are available all year round.

Michelle is keen to remind us, “It is a wonderful thing to appreciate art and witness it being made. Supporting a local artist can also mean putting food on the table for their family, a win -win for everyone!”

For more information feel free to contact David & Michelle (see below), drop into their gallery - open September to May on Sunday afternoons (or other times by request) - and most definitely check them out on the Hand Made In Cygnet Art Trail.
