Handmade in Cygnet - Open Studio Art Trail

Cygnet CNC Designs

After 20 years working in Corporate IT, Peter made the switch to a simpler, quieter life in Cygnet in 2015. An opportunity arose to purchase a CNC Machine from a local maker who was moving on and Cygnet CNC Designs was born. The CNC is a computer controlled cutting machine which is only limited by your imagination.

To start with Peter has been making property signage for local property owners around the Huon Valley and Channel and has expanded into home-wares and personalized gift-ware including essential oil holders, egg holders, cheeseboards, chopping boards and beautiful one of a kind bowls from Huon Pine, Sassafras, Tas Oak and even King Billy pine when he can find it.

All Peter's products highlight the natural beauty of the different timber that he uses so there is a lot of exposed bark, he uses mineral oil to finish which brings out the natural beauty and colour of the pieces.

Peter has been a regular at the Cygnet Market and Sandy Bay Twilight markets since last year. Recently Peter has won some contracts for corporate gifts which has been a huge boost to this new small business. He can take any logo or image and cut it out on the item of choice. He is hoping that this type of business will enable him to carry on making as he could not imagine going back to sitting in an office.
