Jack Binnie

The first guitar Jack made was a gift for his daughter, Asta, a singer songwriter whose star is firmly in the ascendant. Asta says the guitar “sounds ridiculously good” and Jack hasn’t looked back since.

For guitars Jack exclusively uses his favourite Tasmanian timbers such as the warm tones of Celery Top, Blackheart Sassafras, Blackwood (from his property), Huon Pine and Fiddleback Oak...timbers which, as Jack says, are acoustically and visually beautiful. Around 25 years ago Jack cleared an area of his property to build his home. At the same time he planted 5 Blackwood trees. The 3 remaining now tower over the house and the 2 cut down have provided Jack with enough timber for his lifetime.

Jack looks forward to sharing the music with you and welcomes commissions as he strives to make the guitars personal for his clients.

You can view an ABC video about Jack here and read an ABC article about Jack and Asta here. And catch Jack on ABC's Back Roads, 23 January 2017 (ivew later)
