Handmade in Cygnet - Open Studio Art Trail

Darren & Ruth Lindsell

Darren is renowned for his large sculptural forms, which when asked from where he derived his inspiration, he’ll respond with “Oh a cloud pattern one day, or the flight of a bird.”

The incongruity of wispy cloud patterns taking on a stylized form in steel reinforcement bars doesn’t on paper sound like it would work; as would the capturing of flames dancing on a log being carved into sandstone; but in the creative mind of Darren the results are outstandingly beautiful forms.

Living and working in his organic apple and pear orchard on the Huon River in Southern Tasmania, Darren is surrounded by impressions just waiting for his genius creativity to crystallize into a morphed bold and stunning form of stone, wood, steel or anything that inspires him.

Ruth is an accomplished artist and teacher.  In her early days as an artist, sculptural works in wood were Ruth’s main artistic outlet. Since then, she has enjoyed bringing her desire to capture beauty into a variety of 2D media and expressions.  Now living on the Huon River in Tasmania, Ruth has been tempted by the abundance of Huon Pine, to get out the sculpting tools and succeeds in enthralling a new audience with her beautiful bespoke small sculptural pieces.

Ruth finds her artistic inspiration in the world of nature.  A firm believer in using art as a medium to connect with people, she also aspires to assist people to connect with themselves and their place in the natural environment. Currently her artworks depict the intrinsic beauty of the rugged mountain ranges and waterways of Southern Tasmania.
