Lyn Butler

School House Craft

School House Craft was born 28 years ago with Lyn’s sea change to Garden Island Creek’s old school house.

Growing up in London and spending hours in her grandmother’s workshop where beautiful 1940s ladies’ suits were styled gave Lyn a natural ability to create and sew.

On moving to Tassie Lyn completed an associate diploma in Art Craft and Design. Her work now covers a vast range of sewing, embroidery, appliqué, patchwork and knitting. Skills that were conceived in that tailors’ shop many years ago. Most of Lyn’s items are useful and a lot are made with materials milled in Tasmania.

An ability to come up with new designs every year has helped keep the products fresh. Traditional sewing to a level of perfection makes them hard to copy.

Lyn exhibits in shows and won the 2016 needlework award at the Huon show. She also participates in the Tasmanian Craft Fair each year.

Lyn is pleased to open her home and share any ideas or patterns with interested parties.

Whether it be patchwork, embroidery, knitting or even natural wood sticks for wall hangings, the passion for perfection and the love of creative craft is clear in Lyn’s work.
