Christine Williams (Satinwood Creations) is a local producer of leather goods. Every piece is handmade, hand sewn and designed by Christine utilising only full grain cow and kangaroo leather. She creates a large range of products including purses, handbags, bracelets, costume masks, belts and more. Requests for custom made goods are always welcomed.

Christine says she has always gained pleasure from creating handcrafted goods over the years that have included hand spinning yarns, including some from her own sheep, knitting, patchwork, woodwork, and soap making. Her passion for leatherwork became apparent over 40 years ago in undertaking an Adult Education Course. Continued development of her skills enabled her the opportunity to give classes teaching leatherwork skills to disengaged youth looking for inspiration.

Christine is Tasmanian born and bred and made the Huon her home 39 years ago. With a busy working life and growing children the leatherwork took a lower priority for a time but in recent years her attention turned back to the desire to work with leather. The leather tools came back out (got dusted off) and a work studio set up.

She has been a student at the Brisbane biennial “Dimensions in Leather Conference” workshops that host highly talented international and Australian tutors, attended classes run by Sydney’s Birdsall Leather and been tutored by a master of leather lacing visiting from Canada. Christine says she has gained inspiration and new ideas from visiting many artisan markets throughout Australia and New Zealand.

Satinwood Creations now has a working studio at The Artisan’s Hand of Balfour House in Cygnet along with some other highly skilled and talented artisans.
