Amanda Kay is a multidisciplinary contemporary artist and has produced multiple works for public space and private collections. This exhibition explores ideas of realisation of the self through the observation of thoughts during meditation. It is within this technique that one is able to witness the self and recognise how our thoughts are continuously generated. They come in many forms, with hopes and dreams, healing the past or wishing things were different to what they are. Whilst observing thoughts one can recognise their transcendent nature and release the governance over our lives. Amanda sits daily in this witnessing state, capturing these moments in paint. Inner reflections show the transcendent nature of thoughts in which she translates into a viewable form, here one can observe this perpetual generation of the mind. The work is enigmatic in a palimpsest style with traces of words appearing and disappearing, capturing an inner dialogue. Amanda has a solo exhibition coming up in June 2024 at Moonah Arts Centre exhibiting some of her earlier works which focus on trauma and the re-writing of memory.
